The Secrets Behind the Shiny Gold on Your Glass

Introduction

The gold on your glass is not just for show. It can help keep the glass more everlasting, and it also gives you something to look at when you’re trying to decide what kind of drink to order. In this article, we’ll explore the different types of gold decals used in bars around the world—and how they work!

Golden decal

The gold decal contains a chemical compound mixed with 7-12% real gold. It usually is applied to ceramic products for its affinitive blend with one another so they can tightly hold on to each other. However, it is unusually applied to glass products because the smooth glass surface does not let the decal tightly attach to one another. A special binding agent usually has heavy metallic elements (elements such as cadmium), which is needed for this issue.

Among all providers, Heraeus does this job best: providing strong adhesion and antioxidation even for glass products. However, it also has the highest costs among the three.

Pseudo golden decal

A distinctive feature of the pseudo-golden decal is the vibrant, matt surface. The word pseudo here means that it does not contain any authentic gold in its raw material, which is also why it has a rather lower price than using a golden decal for your OEM products. Besides being cheaper and easier to apply on glass, it comes with another advantage: strong adhesion.

Gold printing decal

Gold printing decals are a great option for those who want their glassware to have a shiny gold look without the hassle of electroplating.

The biggest benefit of using gold printing decals is it has the lowest cost compared to the other two options. But because it doesn’t require any special equipment or chemicals, this makes it an ideal solution for anyone who wants their glassware but doesn’t have access to these supplies.

But there are some limitations with this method:

Gold printing decals cannot be used on dishes that have a pH higher than 7 (which includes most dishwashers). This means that if you try to add them to your glasses while they’re in the dishwasher, they will peel off! To prevent this from happening though, I recommend adding another layer after applying my recipe below – just don’t forget about painting over any dried remnants before applying these stickers!
